Step 1.
Open a new GIMP and choose a size. I usually do 820 x 900, but you can choose whichever suits you.
step 2.
Choose your background. I got this pastel flower picture off of the internet. You can either just get a picture off the internet, or you could make a background of your own. Don't forget to put it as a new layer.
step 3.
Add a title by clicking the "A" tool in the tool box to the left. Then type whatever title you want ("Welcome to my card" "Welcome to (name here)'s card!", etc.). Then change the font to your liking and choose your size. Text tool makes its own layer so you do not have to make a new layer for text.
step 4
Next do your boxes. There's a square tool in the toolbox in the left. Click that and drag it on the screen to make it as big/small as you want. Then use the fill tool to fill it in with a color. Make sure to do a new layer before doing this.
step 5
To make the boxes look better, you can go to "Filters" > "Light And Shadow" > "Drop Shadow". Do this order: 0, 0, 8 then click OK. Then fade the layer with the boxes and the drop shadow layer to your liking. *Note: You do not have to do Drop Shadow, only if you want too. I'm just pointing out that it makes it look better.
step 6
Next add titles to your boxes. You can choose whatever you want, example: "About Me", "My Babies", etc. Choose your font and size it so it fits in the boxes and do as you like.
step 7
Once you like how you've made your layout and have done everything you want, merge down all the layers into the background by right clicking each one and clicking "Merge Down" until just the background is showing.
step 8
Next save it by clicking "File" > "Save As". Name it whatever you want (example: layout.jpg). Make sure there is .jpg at the end or the layout will not save right and you will not be able to use it. Click "Export".
step 9
After you click "Export", this box will pop up. Click "Save".
step 10
And now your layout is finished! All you have to do after that is code it. :) I hope this tutorial helped. xx
